Vasco Da Gamma pillar this is an historic monument in Malindi,coastal province of Kenya constructed between 1498 and 1499.It was erected by the famous Portuguese explorer,Vasco da Gamma,during his pioneering sea route to India. It originally featured limestone cross and was built as a navigational beacon and a symbol of his alliance with the local Sultan .To date it is recognized as a National monument under the care of the National museums of Kenya .
