Han gjekk på [[Vest-Agder ungdomsskole]], tok examen artium og studerte medisin på Universitetet i Oslo med eksamen i 1946. Han tok kurs på University of London og var under 2. verdskrigen lege for norske sjøfolk i England. Etter krigen var han hospitant ved [[Menighetssøsterhjemmet]] før han i 1946 vart vigsla til misjonær på [[Fjellhaug]] og sendt til Kina. Der arbeidde han på sjukehuset i [[Laohokow]] og ved United Missions sitt sjukehus i [[Hankow]]. <br /> <br /> I 1949 vart Kina stengt for misjon og Arne Christian Høgetveit var først i Hong Kong, men vart sidan plassert i Etiopia, der han hadde tenesta si på sjukehusa i [[Neghelli]] og [[Irgalem]] i til saman fire periodar frå 1949 til 1967. Etter tida som misjonær budde Arne Christian Høgetveit i Kristiansand.<br /> <br /> == Familie ==<br /> [[Olav Høgetveit]] og [[Jorann Høgetveit]], fødd Aas var foreldrene til Arne Christian Høgetveit. Søskena [[Jørgen Høgetveit (1906)|Jørgen Høgetveit]], [[Anna Høgetveit]] og [[Jørgen Høgetveit]] vart også misjonærar.
