The Mijikenda community treasures the coconut tree,referring to it as the tree of life.Every part of the coconut tree serves a purpose,making it a valuable resource in their daily lives.Coconut tree is a pillar of survival and prosperity, that is,it serves as a source of nourishment, traditional medicine, shelter and craftsmanshipand for economic,cultural and religious benefits. It is not just a plant-it is a symbol of life sustenance and heritage. Its significance remains strong in the coastal region where coconut farming continues to suppot many families not only the Mijikenda but the whole country at large.
